Years before he met his death, Tim Gillen dedicated his life to making a difference in the lives of families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy and disability in Africa. Despite his untimely demise in 2022 due to a tragic hiking accident, Tim Gillen’s impactful work and legacy continue to resonate, inspiring individuals across East Africa. Each year, on the 20th of January, the Sapphire Africa Foundation will pay tribute to this selfless servant of God, remembering and celebrating the profound impact he had on countless lives.<\/p>

Tim Gillen, a New Yorker by birth, embarked on a humanitarian journey that would shape the lives of many in Africa. Motivated by a deep sense of empathy and a desire to create positive change, Gillen focused his efforts on supporting families grappling with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and disability. His commitment to improving the lives of those facing these challenges was unwavering.<\/p>

Tim Gillen understood the devastating impact of Duchenne muscular dystrophy on families in Africa because he has seen his kids suffer from the same and later pass on. In response to this, he worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the condition, help in research, and provide support to affected families. Gillen’s advocacy contributed significantly to advancing knowledge and resources for Duchenne muscular dystrophy within African communities but mostly east Africa.<\/p>

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, Tim championed programs and initiatives that aimed to empower and uplift. Through his efforts, he facilitated opportunities for education, skill development, and employment, fostering a sense of independence and self-worth among those with disabilities.<\/p>

Tim Gillen’s collaboration with the Sapphire Africa Foundation was instrumental in amplifying the impact of his philanthropic endeavors. Together with the foundation, Gillen supported numerous projects, including medical camps, educational programs, and housing initiatives, leaving a lasting legacy of positive change.<\/p>
