NIGHT ROSE: LIVING THROUGH DISABILITY AS AN ADULT
We met Namiga Night Rose in one of our outreaches in the month of October from Nakaseke District. Deep in the village called Kikamulo. In all the families we visited to us we were so touched by Night Rose’s Story.
Night Rose got disabled at the age of 30 and all friends and family abandoned her, it’s from here where she started life as disabled woman, in her time she got lucky and her 8-year-old grandson started staying with her.
The young boy is the one who prepares meals, does the cleaning at home and takes care of Night including cleaning her and feeding her since her hands and parts of her body are paralyzed and she is unable to feed herself and to move her.
The young boy goes to school at 8 am in the morning and returns at 5 pm but Joyce has been spared that schools have been forced to close by the government for months now because of Covid 19. But in normal School days the young boy would wake up as early as 6 am to prepare food and feed the grand Mother so that he could be able to go to school when the grand Mum is fed. That is the only meal the grand Mum takes all day long till the boy returns at 5pm to start cooking and doing other chores. That is the life they have been living together.
By the time we met the family they had just shifted to a rental house which they pay for month because their own grass thatched house was flood by rain water forcing them to leave and the neighbor had mercy on them and rented them his house at a cheap cost
When we asked Joyce how she wanted to be helped she told us about her struggle to move, food and also how they have been sleeping on the floor for years’ now, she also asked us to support the grandson with education
How we responded
Our donors heard the story and were touched by the life of Joyce. We got donations that we used to purchase a wheelchair, Bedding including a blankets, Mattress, bedsheets. We also provided some money for upkeep and asked Joyce to get a maid to stay with her at home so that the boy can be relieved of the many duties and we will be paying the maid a monthly salary.
What we need
We need to help Joyce finish Up her house, and support her to open up a business so that she can have a sustainable business to bring her a monthly income we have also decided she gets helper and we shall be giving her a monthly pay. We can’t do all this by ourselves and that’s why we need your financial support.
