SAF Launches New Term with 300+ Students Supported Across Uganda

At Sapphire Africa Foundation, we are proud to begin a new academic term with over 300 students enrolled across our formal primary, secondary, and vocational education programs. These numbers reflect our continued commitment to creating educational pathways that are not only accessible but transformative. Our focus is not just on traditional learning but on developing an education system that responds directly to the challenges facing Ugandan youth today.

Uganda continues to face a critical education-to-employment gap. While the government provides universal primary and secondary education, dropout rates remain high—around 45% at the primary level. Secondary school completion is even more challenging, especially for vulnerable and rural children. Even for those who finish school, the promise of employment remains elusive. Only 12.9% of university graduates in Uganda secure formal employment, while 42.6% of youth aged 15–24 are not in education, employment, or training. This disconnection between learning and livelihood has left many young people discouraged and economically vulnerable.

Understanding this context, Sapphire Africa Foundation has designed its programs to go beyond academic instruction. Our vocational education program offers practical, hands-on training in relevant trades such as agriculture, tailoring, Knitting hospitality, and Technology—fields where young people can immediately begin earning and sustaining livelihoods. Our aim is to create a generation of skilled individuals who are ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Complementing our education programs is the Youth Empowerment initiative, which nurtures young entrepreneurs with the knowledge, mentorship, and tools they need to start and sustain their own businesses. In a country where 23.8% of youth are actively unemployed and over 30% of university graduates end up working in roles that don’t match their training, entrepreneurship is not just an alternative—it’s a necessity. By focusing on self-reliance and innovation, we are helping young people become creators of opportunity rather than passive job seekers in a strained labor market.

Our programs are making a difference. Families are reporting increased resilience, students are more hopeful, and communities are beginning to see the long-term value of combining education with practical empowerment. These efforts would not be possible without the generous support of our donors, partners, and volunteers who continue to believe in the potential of Uganda’s youth.

As we move forward, we invite you to join us in expanding these life-changing programs. Your support can help us reach more students, provide more vocational tools, and empower more young entrepreneurs to shape a brighter future for themselves and their families. At Sapphire Africa Foundation, we’re not just educating—we’re unlocking potential and creating lasting impact, one student at a time.
