Duchenne & Disability Support Program Approach
Our Approach
We provide a holistic, community-based model of care that supports families from diagnosis through long-term empowerment.
1. Early Identification & Patient Support
We actively identify and support children living with Duchenne and other disabilities, ensuring early intervention and continuous care through structured follow-up and patient tracking.
2. Clinical Care & Rehabilitation
We facilitate access to essential healthcare services including:
- Diagnostics and specialist referrals
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation support
- Nutritional and care guidance
This improves quality of life and helps slow disease progression.
3. Mobility & Assistive Devices
Through our local production initiative, we provide:
- Custom-fitted wheelchairs
- Orthotics and mobility aids
- Repairs and ongoing maintenance
By producing these devices locally in Uganda, we ensure affordability, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
Mobility is the foundation of independence.
4. Family & Caregiver Support
We strengthen families through:
- Counselling and psychosocial support
- Caregiver training and peer support networks
This reduces stress and equips families to better manage long-term care.
5. Economic Empowerment
Disability often leads to financial hardship. To address this, we support caregivers and persons with disabilities to build sustainable livelihoods through:
- Small business training
- Seed funding and startup support
- Ongoing mentorship
This enables families to move from dependency to financial independence.
6. Community Outreach & Medical Camps
We organize medical outreach programs in underserved areas, providing:
- Screening and diagnosis
- Therapy and rehabilitation services
- Assistive device distribution and fitting
These camps extend critical services to families who would otherwise have no access to care.
