Sapphire Africa Foundation Quarterly Newsletter 2025

At Sapphire Africa Foundation, our mission to create a “Quality Life for All” continues to guide our work across Uganda and East Africa. Over the past months, we have reached more families, delivered more services, and built stronger pathways for hope, dignity, and inclusion particularly for children and persons with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and other disabilities.

This quarter, through the generous support of our partners, we are distributing 25 custom wheelchairs, 10 pairs of walking aids, and 40 sets of braces and splints to children and adults in Uganda and Kenya. Each mobility tool is custom-fitted to meet the specific needs of its recipient, ensuring comfort, usability, and durability. These are not just devices; they are lifelines that restore independence, confidence, and access to education, work, and community participation.

In our recent medical outreach, we served over 37 families with essential support, including food supplies, blankets, and bed covers, while also conducting training sessions to equip caregivers with skills for better daily care. Many of these households are caring for children with DMD and face severe economic challenges, so the combination of healthcare, psychosocial support, and practical assistance makes a real difference in their lives.

Education remains at the heart of our Give a Hope Program. This term, however, has presented financial challenges, with school fees falling behind and the risk of children missing their final exams. We have called on our friends and donors to help bridge this gap, as even a small contribution can keep a child in school and protect their future.

Beyond direct aid, our focus on long-term empowerment remains strong. We continue to support caregivers especially mothers with skills training, small business support, and income-generating opportunities, enabling them to provide for their families while caring for children with complex medical needs. These initiatives are essential to building resilience and reducing dependence on aid.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day, where we will join families worldwide to raise a collective voice for inclusion, research, and improved care. We are also committed to expanding partnerships, deepening our health and education programs, and advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities.

Your support is what makes all of this possible. Every wheelchair delivered, every child kept in school, every meal given, and every training session conducted is a testament to the power of partnership. Together, we are building a future where disability is not a barrier to opportunity, dignity, or hope.
