Sapphire Foundation Christmas Outreach

Sapphire foundation’s Christmas outreach to Luwero was a success and people’s lives were touched enormously, this came after mobilizing resources from different members of the foundation and other well-wishers who made huge contributions to different items ranging from food, money, clothing and a lot more. The journey to Luwero kicked off very early in the morning and a number of members from sapphire foundation and sapphire women took part. A couple of families were visited and help was rendered to them as it was preplanned for each of the 25 families to benefit from this package. However, the needs of people overwhelmed the little package sapphire foundation had set aside for each individual. A brief insight of our journey to the outskirts of Luwero, our first home to visit was salongo’s where our Christmas package was delivered and he was very thankful to sapphire foundation and all those doing the great work to restore their long lost hope. Salongo got disabled and spends most of his time in wheelchair seated helplessly and can hardly do a thing to provide food and all the necessities of life to his family, he has a few school going children who are struggling to raise school fees and other school requirements. They not only find difficult time at school but also have a big challenge of beddings and poor housing. Earlier on last year, Sapphire foundation bought a few beddings for this family but they’re not enough for the whole family.

While there we encountered a young teenage girl who was said to have dropped out of school after she had gotten pregnant. It was fortunate that our sapphire women team were able to sit her down, interact and equipped her with the best knowledge to go through this life experience and empowered her to go back to school and finish her studies. We proceeded to visit the old woman Night Rose who got hit by an unknown illness that wasted all her muscles and left her disabled. Besides that, Night Rose was forced to leave her house for safety reasons, her house was hit by floods and the best way to avoid further problems was for to shift to her nearest neighbor. Sapphire foundation was able to give her hope again firstly, by providing a brand new wheel chair which would help her mobility. Secondly sapphire provided beddings since she was sleeping on a bare floor despite her condition. Thirdly, a package for her Christmas was also given. I quote ‘‘I do not know how life would have been if you people had not come through, may the lord always reward you for the great work you are doing for us.’’ Those were words from Night Rose upon seeing the sapphire foundation team. Night Rose’s house is down and she has no permanent settlement for now. We also visited the councilor, as a team we were very encouraged by the great work she had done. She has a small but in her capacity, she has managed to take care of very many teenage mothers, these mothers have different stories of their lives and you would pay much attention to listen to them all because they are very touching. Madam councilor tried to come up with different activities that would skill these mothers and earn them some money at the end of the day and she has also encouraged others to go back to school. Through our interactions with her she told us that she is trying to create awareness all over Nakaseke to protect girl child and encouraging them to stay in school and prevent them from going for early marriages. However, she had a challenge of not reaching every girl child especially those who might need her most due to inadequate transport means. While at councilors home our sapphire women team met a group of young ladies from different families including the ones who stay with the councilor and a lot was shared amongst them all. They were very thankful for the great effort sapphire foundation is doing in their area and encouraged sapphire foundation not to ever give up on them.

Sapphire foundation was able to meet another group of old women from different families who had gathered at Nakaseke church of Uganda. Sapphire foundation delivered their package to each one of them and sapphire women was given quality time to unleash their special package for these old women. There was great interaction and these ladies were asked to share the challenges they face. The major problem was lack of enough money to take to provide for the basic necessities of life and fees for their grandchildren. The women leader was asked to give remarks and in her speech she thanked sapphire foundation and the people working hand in hand to make the world a better place for all people without discrimination. She also encouraged her fellows to stick together and spread love for the betterment of tomorrow.
