HIKE FOR DUCHENNE IX, $344 RAISED AND THE JOURNEY SO FAR

For the past few weeks Sapphire foundation team has taken on the mantle to Hike for Duchenne to raise funds to help the Duchenne families that are already going through a lot to meet basic necessities of life, also it’s meant to create awareness among individuals in the Ugandan community so that it’s easy to identify children who may manifest with signs and symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy so that they can be helped the best way we can. Duchenne muscular dystrophy has hit many families in Uganda, Africa and the world at large and being a disease that has no cure parents with Duchenne children need full support in terms of spiritual support,  financial and emotional support and also food relief, some families go a day without even having a single meal, if you realize it’s not easy to take care of a Duchenne patient without support since they are no longer able to help them selves due to weakening of muscles and muscle wasting. So it’s their parents who have to carry them from bed to outside, feed them, bathe them and do all the person hygiene related stuff single handedly, Yes its a lot of work. Paul, Josh, Pius and some other members have managed to hike from different places across central Uganda.   When they were asked about how the experience is? Everyone is positive because we are doing this for a good cause. And so far we have raise close to $300 which we are using to make a huge difference. However its tiring as you may expect. The team is fully committed with all the energy and full force to hike all the 150 miles or more  that were set as a target to be covered from 18^th June to 18^th August. we have so far covered 48miles and still strong and going.
