About Us

TOGETHER WE ARE HELPING VULNERABLE GROUPS

Our Story

Sapphire Africa Foundation was established in 2014, beginning its work in Northern Uganda, a region deeply affected by the aftermath of the LRA conflict. Years of violence had left communities struggling with loss, displacement, and limited access to essential services, particularly for children and families living in extreme vulnerability. It was within this context of resilience and recovery that our mission took shape.

The inspiration behind Sapphire Africa Foundation was born from a defining moment experienced by Paul Collins, one of the Foundation’s founders. While on a work assignment in Northern Uganda, Paul encountered a 13-year-old girl who had been sent home from school due to unpaid school fees totaling just fifteen dollars. What made the situation even more distressing was the reality that, without access to education, the child faced the immediate risk of being forced into early marriage.

Moved by compassion and a strong sense of responsibility, Paul intervened and paid forty-five dollars, covering the girl’s school fees for an entire year. That simple act of support changed the course of her life and revealed a powerful truth: small, timely interventions can prevent life-altering outcomes and open doors to hope and opportunity.

This moment became the catalyst for Sapphire Africa Foundation. What began as a single act of kindness grew into a lasting commitment to empower vulnerable children, strengthen families, and create sustainable pathways to education, health, and dignity. Today, Sapphire Africa Foundation continues to build on this founding principle, ensuring that no child’s future is determined by poverty alone.

That single intervention revealed a broader reality faced by thousands of children and families across Uganda, where poverty, disability, and limited access to basic services continue to block opportunity. It also made clear that lasting change requires more than one-time assistance; it demands consistent support, community involvement, and sustainable systems.

Guided by this understanding, Sapphire Africa Foundation evolved from an individual act of compassion into an organized response to systemic challenges. The Foundation began expanding its reach, working closely with communities to address the root causes of vulnerability through education support, healthcare access, disability inclusion, and family empowerment initiatives.

For over 10 years, Sapphire Africa Foundation developed structured programs designed not only to respond to immediate needs, but also to create long-term impact. By partnering with local leaders, caregivers, and institutions, the Foundation has been able to scale its efforts while maintaining a people-centered approach that places dignity, accountability, and empowerment at the core of every intervention.
