Over 3,000 Served at Sapphire Africa Foundation’s 2024 Medical Camp

Sapphire Africa Foundation successfully concluded its 5th Annual Medical Camp on November 29th and 30th, 2024, in Ruteete Sub County, Kabarole District, Fort Portal City. The camp marked a pivotal milestone in the Foundation’s ongoing mission to provide accessible healthcare to underserved communities across Uganda and Sub-Saharan Africa.

This year’s medical camp attracted a distinguished team of health professionals, including doctors, physicians, physiotherapists, ophthalmologists, dentists, nurses, and counselors, both from Uganda and the United States. Their collective expertise ensured the delivery of a broad spectrum of free medical services to over 3,000 local residents, many of whom would otherwise have had limited access to such care.

Comprehensive Healthcare Services

The medical camp offered a wide range of health services, including physiotherapy, eye exams and treatments, dental check-ups, minor surgeries, hypertension and diabetes screenings, and other essential health services. This initiative not only addressed immediate health concerns but also provided preventative care that will have a lasting impact on the community’s well-being.

Key to the camp’s success was the provision of free medical testing for conditions such as Hepatitis B, malaria, typhoid, and diabetes, which would have otherwise been inaccessible to many. These critical tests were made possible through the long-standing partnership between Sapphire Africa Foundation and MBN Laboratories, Uganda’s largest and most comprehensive laboratory service provider.

Community Support and Impact

In addition to medical care, the camp provided much-needed physical support to the community. Donations of clothing, shoes, and vital physiotherapy equipment were distributed, including Benik vests, ankle-foot orthoses, and wrist/hand orthotics. These items were particularly beneficial to individuals with mobility challenges, enabling them to improve their physical function and quality of life.

The impact of the camp was far-reaching, with countless lives improved through immediate medical treatment, vital screenings, and the provision of essential health-related resources.

Statements from Key Figures

District LCV Chairperson: “I extend my deepest gratitude to Sapphire Africa Foundation for organizing this transformative event. The healthcare services provided—especially surgeries and specialist care—are often beyond the financial reach of our local population. This initiative is not only commendable but also life-changing. I encourage the people of Ruteete to take full advantage of these services and embrace such opportunities to improve their health.”

Dr. Magezi, In Charge of Ruteete Health Center IV: “This medical camp has been a game-changer for Ruteete. The caliber of healthcare professionals involved was exceptional, and the level of care provided was unprecedented for our community. While we are grateful for the treatment that has been offered, there is still a significant need for healthcare services. I hope Sapphire Africa Foundation will consider hosting more medical camps in the future, as the demand remains high.”

Paul Collins, Co-Founder of Sapphire Africa Foundation: “I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to our donors, supporters, and partners who made this year’s medical camp a reality. Your contributions allowed us to reach over 3,000 people in need of healthcare, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Our work doesn’t stop here; we are committed to expanding our efforts and ensuring that every year, we bring accessible healthcare to those who need it the most.”

Collaboration and Support

The 2024 Sapphire Africa Foundation Medical Camp was made possible through the generous contributions of various partners and supporters, including individual donors from the United States, Ropa Spaces—a property and homestay company based in Uganda, the Seventh-day Adventist Community, MBN Laboratories, Ruteete Health Center IV, and the Kabarole Local Government.

Sapphire Africa Foundation continues to stand as one of the most impactful health and humanitarian organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa, providing essential services and support to communities that would otherwise be neglected.
